Places to eat

San Jose has a vibrant and diverse community and is a melting pot of many different kinds of cuisine. Here are some of the restaurants you must visit in San Jose to sample the delicious and unique food available in the city:

La Foret

If you want a luxurious fine dining experience, then La Foret is the place for you. It’s a French restaurant based out of a restored historic building from the 19th century that used to be the Hacienda Hotel. You enter the restaurant through a massive reception with a bar and an array of Victorian-style furniture. The main restaurant is styled with over-the-top decorations such as two full-sized chandeliers, extravagant wallpaper, and massive portraits of the owner’s dogs in military garb. Overall the food is excellent, although not entirely traditional.

Falafel Drive-In

We have Falafel Drive-in on the opposite end of the spectrum from La Foret. It is an inexpensive yet equally popular place serving delicious and cheap Middle Eastern food. This restaurant has been around for over 40 years and is frequented by college kids and locals, making the area an excellent place to meet people that know the city inside out. With tasty falafels, kebabs, dips, and much more, this is a place the locals swear by.

Places to visit

Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum

Inspired and modeled after the temple of Amon in Karnak, the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum features the most extensive collection of Egyptian artifacts in North America. The place is a history buff’s dream and offers a lot of insight into what ancient Egyptian culture was like. If you have the time and enjoy historical details, you must visit the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum in San Jose.

Cathedral Basilica of St. Joseph

Built in 1877, the Cathedral Basilica of St. Joseph is the oldest Parish in San Jose and a California Historical Landmark. The church features exquisite architecture and design, including stained glass windows and large domes, and is a must-visit spot, even if you aren’t religious.

Municipal Rose Garden

Touted to be one of the prettiest places in the city, the Municipal Rose Garden is an absolute delight to visit, especially during spring when all the flowers are in full bloom and there’s a beautiful flowery aroma in the air. The garden also makes for an excellent spot to roll up a joint with some mango kush, and if you forget to bring paper, you can always just use a rose petal to get the job done.
