Known for large recreational areas and open spaces, Thousand Oaks is located around 15 miles from LA. If you’re looking to spend some quality time with your crew on a weekend getaway, Thousand Oaks is the perfect place for that.

Being a part of greater Los Angeles, Thousand Oaks has a lot to offer. Some of the must-visit places in Thousand Oaks are:

  • Six Flags Magic Mountain
  • Conejo Valley Art Museum
  • Santa Monica beach
  • Wildwood Regional Park
  • Reign of Terror Haunted House
  • Gardens of the World

Six Flags Magic Mountain

Formerly known as just Magic Mountain, it’s a 260-acre amusement park with something for everyone. With an astonishing 19 roller coasters, this place is a dreamland for adrenaline junkies. The amusement park also hosts events, parades, and firework shows on certain days between March and September. This is a must-visit location if you’re visiting Thousand Oaks with a younger group.

Conejo Valley Art Museum

The breathtaking beauty of the natural landscapes and open fields of California have inspired artists for millennia, from the tribal paintings by the Native Americans that originally inhabited the land to many modern local artists. The Conejo Valley Art Museum was founded more than four decades ago by a group of artists and teachers to preserve their vibrant heritage and culture. The museum has the work of several local and national artists on display in rotation. It also hosts a popular event known as the Thousand Oaks art walk, which features food, drinks, and live entertainment.

Reign of Terror Haunted House

Reign of Terror is the longest-running authentic haunted house in South California. Established in 1999, it takes roughly 25-30 minutes to get through the entire 115 interconnected rooms. The scares are your traditional jumpscares, coming out from dark corners with animatronics.

Priding itself in being the original, Reign of Terror has a large staff that constantly monitors you as you go through the house. The place also holds unique lights on and lights out events in which you get to go through the entire place with all the lights on to get a better look at the animatronics and workings. And you go through the entire thing in complete darkness save a glowstick in the lights-out event.

Gardens of the World

Right across Thousand Oaks boulevard are the mesmerizing Gardens of the World park. The park is divided into five distinct gardens, a French garden with a waterfall, an English rose garden, an Italian grapevine garden, and a quaint little Japanese garden with both a little koi pond and a pagoda. The gardens in the park are all connected with a concrete trail, and the entire park is excellent for picnics, walks, and enjoying the scenery.

Santa Monica Beach

A quintessential example of the beautiful Cali beaches is Santa Monica Beach, just half an hour’s drive from Thousand Oaks. Home to the iconic Santa Monica Pier, the beach offers almost everything.
Santa Monica has bike and skating trails right next to the beach’s expanse. The beach is also within walking distance of some of the best restaurants and shops. A well-maintained soft and sandy beach, Santa Monica offers unparalleled relaxation and comfort, making it an excellent spot to crush up some top-tier pot and roll a blunt to smoke while you get a nice tan. Wildwood Regional Park

When you’re in Thousand Oaks and want some space and peace, Wildwood Regional Park is one of the best and most convenient options for you. The park consists of nearly 1800 acres of land initially earmarked for public use in the 1960s.

For trekkers, hikers, mountain bikers, and other nature enthusiasts, it is simply awe-inspiring how lush and rich the park is in terms of fauna. The park also contains several natural attractions such as the Paradise Falls, a year-round 70ft waterfall that cascades into a steep gorge, a Native American cave, and a bunch of other minor attractions like lizard rock (a small volcanic outcropping resembling a lizard).
